Kemble Cambridge 10 (1999)

Crafted in Milton Keynes, UK, under Yamaha’s meticulous supervision, this 1999 Kemble Cambridge 10 is a premier British-built compact upright. Renowned for its robust construction and dependable performance, this instrument beautifully marries a classic European tonal profile with precision modern engineering.

Design & Dimensions

  • Space-Efficient Profile: Standing at 110 cm high, 148 cm wide, and 54 cm deep, its slim footprint makes it an excellent addition to contemporary homes, apartments, or private teaching studios.

  • Contemporary Aesthetic: The cabinet boasts a sleek, modern silhouette that does away with traditional front legs (toe blocks) for a cleaner look. Typically finished in a rich dark walnut, it is elegantly accented by polished brass hardware.

Acoustic & Mechanical Features

  • Rich European Voice: Standing out from the characteristically bright tone of many Asian-manufactured pianos, the Cambridge 10 utilizes a solid Austrian spruce soundboard. Paired with European-style voicing, it produces a warm, mellow, and deeply resonant sound with an impressively robust bass for its frame.

  • Expressive Touch: The full 88-note keyboard is outfitted with premium English felt hammers. The action offers a balanced, medium-to-firm resistance that responds beautifully to every dynamic nuance of your playing.

  • Deflector Lid: The top lid is designed with a prop mechanism that allows it to be left slightly ajar. This opens up the soundscape, letting complex harmonics escape for enhanced clarity and volume projection.

The Three-Pedal System

  • Sustain (Right): Raises the dampers, allowing notes to ring freely and blend seamlessly.

  • Soft (Left): Shifts the hammers closer to the strings, softening the attack and lowering the overall volume.

  • Practice/Celeste (Middle): Lowers a protective strip of muffler felt between the hammers and strings. This drastically reduces the instrument's volume, allowing for peaceful practice sessions at any hour without disrupting others.

Legacy & Market Standing

Built side-by-side with Yamaha's P-Series in the UK plant, the Cambridge 10 shares high-grade internal components with its Yamaha counterparts. This unique blend of British character and Japanese mechanical precision makes it a highly recommended choice among piano instructors and a fantastic investment for progressing students.
